Darkman: or Why Sam Raimi is Awesome.

I have been a fan of Sam Raimi's work ever since I was introduced to the original Evil Dead movies (also probably the source of my adoration of horror movies). So naturally I've since tracked down as many Raimi films as I could. It was only recently, last night in fact, that I saw Darkman (1990). It was quite simply awesome.

The Case For Bathroom Breaks

137 of the 193 movies in my collection are greater then 100 minutes (an hour 40) totaling 70% of all the movies I own. this same percentage seems to be about right for the main Hollywood film industry too (at the very least the big summer movies). So why don't movies have intermissions any more?

Why I Love VHS

As a fan of the sci-fi aesthetic of the 80's I have been following the production of Kung Fury, a crowd funded 30 minute 80's style sci-fi-cop-martial arts-fantasy film. however, despite the movie being released on youtube yesterday (here)...I haven't seen it yet. This is because I want to copy it to a VHS tape first. However for all of you who aren't as in love with the VHS format as I am...whats wrong with you. Here are 5 reasons VHS is better then DVD.

A Sordid Affair

I have not been faithful recently. For about 6 or 7 years I have pledged myself to one, and this past week I betrayed that pledge. This was not just once, but 3 times I have rejected the one to whom I've pledged my devotion. Before I expound upon my sins I must first apologies to the one I have wronged: I am so sorry Godzilla for I have seen and enjoyed 3 Gamera movies.

Zero Must Equal One Hundred Percent

Ever since I first saw Brazil (1985) two or three years ago I have been a HUGE Terry Gilliam fan. It didn't take me long at all to watch Time Bandits (1981), 12 Monkies (1995), and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998). So back in 2013 when I heard of The Zero Theorem I was naturally very excited. A brand new Terry Gilliam movie that critics were comparing to my favorite Gilliam movie Brazil? Sign me up! Of course being the small, low budget movie that it was I couldn't see it until I bought it digitally through VHX. After finishing the movie I was quite taken aback by just how the movie did not meet expectations.

Whether it is in a word or in a look you can't get rid of THE BABADOOK

Once in a blue Moon comes a movie that’s not only shatters genre conventions, also causes you to rethink the entire genre.  Last year one such movie was released, however, as it was a foreign film did not receive the due attention it deserved: The Babadook.

Genre of Hidden Gems Pt.4 Well Done, but Underrated.

Now to finish off my overdue theme week I’d like to talk about what I think is the absolute best video game based movie. It’s not the best representation of the game’s lore, or characters, but it absolutely nails the look and feel of the games while delivering a compelling enough story. This movie is the criminally underrated Silent Hill.
